1. Who can use these courses?
Anyone can use these courses.
They have been written specifically for prospective students who have no formal experience or qualifications in science or who require some science revision study before embarking on a course in Complementary Health studies.

2. Do I have to sit any exams in order to be awarded a Certificate?
No, there are no exams to sit. Your work will be assessed from the Tutor Marked Assignments which you send to your Tutor at Complementary Science. If there are any problems with the standard of work submitted your tutor will contact you and provide the support necessary for you to attain the required level of understanding.

3. Which course should I apply for?
Complementary Science is the Distance Learning Access course provider. If you are unsure of the Course you should apply for, contact the University or College where you intend to study your chosen complementary therapies.

4. When can I start a Distance Learning Access course with Complementary Science?
You can start a course with Complementary Science at any time, just print out an application form, fill it in and send it along with a cheque to Complementary Science and the materials will be with you within five working days of reciept of the application.

5. What do I do if I get stuck?
Studying at a Distance can feel lonely, don't be stuck. If you have a question you need to ask then email or phone your Tutor and she will get back to you as soon as possible. You may choose to sign up for a study buddy - someone who is working through the same course as you and would appreciate the contact of a fellow student.

6. What do other students think of these courses?
Some comments from completed student's evaluation forms.
"Now that I am well into my studies at the University of Westminster on the BSc TCM Acupuncture course, I can appreciate the value of your Distance Learning Course in Foundation Biochemistry. It helped me as a mature student to get back into the disciplined study that is required of a University student" T.T.

"I found the Anatomy and Physiology Course extremely enjoyable to do. I actually looked forward to doing each Unit! The course is well structured with clear Learning Outcomes and the course materials are clear and very accessible. There is very good Tutor support and feedback. I thoroughly recommend it for anyone needing a good basic grounding in anatomy/physiology before going on to do another course. It has stood me in good stead for the Nutrition Course I am now doing". Tracy

7. How does homeopathy work?
Homeopathic remedies work by stimulating the body's own natural healing processes. The remedies are safe, non-addictive and can be used alongside conventional medicines.

8. How many treatments will I need?
If symptoms of ill health have been around for a number of years then there will be an initial consultation followed by at least two follow-up consultations. The idea is to get you to a level of health where the body is in balance and treatments may then only be necessary a couple of times a year in order to maintain this good health.

9. Why does an initial consultation take about one and a half hours?
In order to assess your case and prescribe the best possible remedy for you the homeopath needs to have an understanding of who you are as well as how you experience ill health. Past medical and family history, your lifestyle and energy levels are also needed to give as complete a picture as possible of you as an individual.

10. What is a homeopathic remedy?
A homeopathic remedy may be from an animal, vegetable or mineral source and can be given in the form of tablets or drops.

11. Can homeopathy be used alongside conventional medicines?
Yes, homeopathic remedies can be used alongside conventional medicines to support treatment from the GP and the homeopath will always ask about any current medication you are taking.

12. Will the homeopath advise about lifestyle and diet?
Yes, as part of the initial consultation the homeopath will ask about your diet and lifestyle and may suggest changes if it seems that this is contributing to your ill health. However you may be refered to a Nutritionist or other suitable practitioner if this is appropriate.

13. How do I know if I have found a good homeopath?
It is always useful to check out any professional with their regulatory body. Kate is registered with the Society of Homeopaths and practices in accordance with their code of Ethics and Practice and holds their professional insurance.

Since the homeopath needs a lot of information about you as a person as well as about your illness, it is important to feel comfortable with her. Kate is happy to have a chat before you decide whether homeopathy is for you and if you would be confident working with her towards your better health.

14. What do patients say about their Homeopathic treatment?
Miss B. Teacher, Glasgow Age 27
"I was dubious and cynical about Homeopathy from the outset. Went along to humour my father. I suffered from depression for over two years, but treatment cleared my depression within 4 months".

Mrs. P.B. Nurse, Edinburgh Age 32
"Following meningitis, I was finding it difficult to regain my former health and energy. The remedy was given in drops, allowing me to control the dosage and to work with it. After three months, I was able to return to work, renovate a flat, and look after my young son!"

Ms. A.D. Student, Haddington Age 14
"I had suffered from recurrent cold sores on my face from the age of three months. After a consultation with Kate, which I actually enjoyed, she gave me three tablets to take and I have not had a cold sore since."
